Our mission is to create extraordinary interior design, while creating fabulous and rewarding relationships.  Our work is diverse in style, reflecting our client's individuality.  We listen and understand our clients.  We have an organized approach to ascertain our client's needs wants and desires.  We offer innovative, practical, and personal interior design that brings our clients dreams to life.

Founded by Patti Dixon in 1982, our primary emphasis has been on high quality, custom residential resort homes – and on exceptional service.

Our home is in the Vail Valley. We are privileged to work with both local and international clients on projects in Vail Village, Spraddle Creek, Beaver Creek, Arrowhead, Cordillera and Mountain Star. Our clients have also engaged our services in their other residential and vacation homes projects across the country.  Morningstar has also participated in extensive remodeling endeavors, including single family and condominium projects; as well as selected commercial work for banks, mortgage companies and restaurants.

Our specialty is new construction projects, from conception to completion.  We work in tandem with the Valley's most respected architects and contractors.  We strive to compliment and enhance the architecture of each project.  It is our goal to create a seamless connection between interior design and exterior architecture, or even pay homage to that architecture.

Our honors and awards... We are honored to be a three time B.E.A.M. Award recipient for Best Interior Design awarded by the National Association of Homebuilders.

Letter from the President

Letter from Patti Dixon, President

Understanding and personal connection through life experiences is one of the most powerful and intrinsic tools in creating meaningful interior design. I specialize in designing for resort living. In the realm of design, Mountain Design is more inventive; combining natural elements with the client's lifestyle is most important, and the innovative application of basic design principles is key. Your lifestyle will determine the basic structure of the design and my personal involvement in the region through hiking, skiing, biking camping, and horseback riding helps me relate and translate authentically the nuances of Mountain Living. There is a natural ruggedness as well as a cosmopolitan sophistication to the lifestyle here, which I fully appreciate, having lived in the valley for 22 years.

I have an organized approach to the design process. Morningstar's initial client questionnaire allows Morningstar, and all the team members involved in the project to be aware of our clients' preferences. The client's personal color palette is the spring-point from which I create unique variations to timeless themes. It is the melding of design elements and my inherent understanding of the importance of each elements influence that makes a great impact. Translating people's desires is more than good listening.

I test the clients level of risk, the wild side, how “outside the box”, or how expressive they want to be. I aspire to always support a client’s desire to increase their creative self-expression and instill in them the confidence to execute it: empowering creative self-expression. I have a client, Ms. Cipriani, whom I have designed various homes for throughout the years. The first, a second-home, I refurnished. The most recent, their primary residence was tailored in a much more personal manner. As my relationships with my clients grow through the years, they too expand their learning and they desire a more personal environment. And in turn, I grow from them. Others have quoted:

• "Working with Patti Dixon was the most positive experience I have ever had working with an
interior designer. The results are spectacular!" Jennie Hlavacek, Cordillera, Colorado
• "We definitely chose the right designer" Charles Nadler, Beaver Creek
• “You have an extraordinary use of color and a natural ability of juxtaposition”
   Barbara Barton, Denver
• “She took the mundane and left me with the unexpected. Anonymous.
• “I love it, love it, love it!" Diane England of her Mountain Star residence

Thank you for the consideration of Morningstar for your interior design.
